About Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil (Merthyr Tudful) is a principal area in south Wales, located in the historic county of Glamorgan. It was the iron capital of the world in the early 19th century and a major coal mining centre. The population is approximately 59,000. Notable landmarks include Cyfarthfa Castle (built by an ironmaster), the Brecon Mountain Railway, and the surrounding peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
