About Powys
Powys is a principal area in mid-Wales, the largest by area in Wales but sparsely populated. It encompasses much of the historic counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, and Brecknockshire. The area features the Brecon Beacons National Park, parts of Snowdonia National Park, and the Cambrian Mountains. The population is approximately 133,000, with Llandrindod Wells as the administrative center. Notable landmarks include Powis Castle, the Elan Valley reservoirs, and the market towns of Brecon and Welshpool. Powys is predominantly rural with agriculture and tourism as key industries.
