About three rivers

Three Rivers is a local government district in Hertfordshire, named after the rivers Chess, Gade, and Colne which flow through it, encompassing the towns of Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, and South Oxhey along with numerous villages including Croxley Green, Abbots Langley, and Sarratt. This prosperous district features extensive green space, the Grand Union Canal, and some of the UK's most desirable commuter villages. The climate is typical of southeast England with mild temperatures, moderate rainfall, and warmer, drier conditions than UK average. Culturally, Three Rivers maintains strong identity with Rickmansworth's historic town centre (including its church, the aquadrome, and the river Chess), Chorleywood's reputation for Chorleywood bread (the Chorleywood Bread Process revolutionized commercial bread-making worldwide), and the district's network of attractive villages. The area preserves important heritage including the Grand Union Canal corridor (with its locks, towpaths, and canal-side pubs), Moor Park (historic mansion now golf club), and the medieval churches of the villages. The Chess, Gade, and Colne rivers provide beautiful valleys for walking, fishing, and wildlife watching while the Chilterns AONB extends into the district's western parts. Croxley Green retains its village character with its green and historic buildings while Abbots Langley has connections to the Abbots of St Albans. Sarratt is one of Hertfordshire's most desirable villages with its green, pond, and cricket pitch. The district's excellent schools and transport links (including Metropolitan and Chiltern Railways lines) make it highly desirable for commuters while maintaining strong rural and village character. Boundary GIS data for Three Rivers District Council is available for download in GeoJSON and KML formats, supporting green space management along the rivers and canal, preservation of village character, and sustainable development in this desirable Hertfordshire district.
